Management for energy saving at CCCB

Application of the Immediate Energy Saving System at Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB)
Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona
2012 - 2016

Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB) is a key cultural centre in our country, organising and producing exhibitions, conferences and festivals in a space of more than 15,000 m2 distributed in two buildings. The management at the centre, aware of high energy consumption costs, have been working for years to reduce consumption.

Since the installation of a monitoring system in 2012, ERF has conducted continuous online analysis of energy consumption and technical assistance with a view to implementing measures to make savings and improve energy management without additional cost. The challenge is to detect improvements in a building in which the type of activities constantly changes, ensuring that the thermal conditions necessary for the correct operation of the centre are maintained.

The changes to the energy management system at the Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture generated savings of over 10% in the first 7 months of application of the measures. By means of this saving, the pay-back period on the cost of the monitoring system installed was less than 6 months.

ERF carried out the following tasks:

  • Installation and configuration of an online monitoring system, continuous and in real time.
  • Training of personnel in the use of specialised monitoring software.
  • Study of the buildings’ characteristics: envelope, services, operation and regulation.
  • Automation of energy accounting and periodic monitoring reports.
  • Continuous assistance and proposals for cost-free energy improvements. The most outstanding measures implemented include optimisation of air conditioning and heating schedules.
  • Assessment of cost-free improvements implemented.
