Igualada's Local Agenda 2030
Assessment of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and challenges for the 2030 Agenda.
Motivation
The 2030 Agenda is the new global roadmap for moving towards sustainable development. Adopted by the United Nations in 2015, it includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030 that address five major areas (5Ps): Planet, People, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.
The alignment of the SDGs in local government action represents a step towards recognizing the transformative power of urban areas and the role that cities and towns must play in driving global change from below.
Results
A strategic document has been drafted that identifies the municipal action in relation to the SDGs in Igualada and sets out the challenges and lines of action to be promoted. The proposal of the municipal challenges has been carried out with a very relevant participation of the technical team of the City Council, with several meetings to define and validate the proposals. A total of 74 targets have been selected to be developed at the local level, focused on the Planet and Prosperity areas of the SDGs.
At the same time, a system of indicators is proposed for monitoring and evaluating the achievement of the SDGs and their targets, adapted to the municipal reality. In addition, a communication strategy has been developed, both internally (technical and political) and at the public level.
